Dr. David Shields is Program Director of Program Management for Open Source Software in the Linux Technology Center, part of IBM's Systems & Technology Group. Dave will present a report on the K-12 Open Minds Conference, the first national conference to bring together educators and others interested in promoting the use of open-source in our nation's schools. The presentation will discuss some of the people met; the hardware demonstrated -- including the new One Laptop Per Child and the ASUS under $300 mini-laptop; presentations attended; and some of the opportunities and challenges that emerged from conference.
He'll also discuss Ubuntu, a Linux operating system, in educational settings and open document standard implications for libraries.
