Milestones

Saad Abulhab (Baruch) retired after ten years as the Newman Library’s director of technology.  Saad was previously systems librarian at the Graduate Center.

Frans Albarillo (Brooklyn) has been appointed Information Services Librarian–Specialist in Business and Economics.  Frans, who has an MLS from the University of Hawaii, was previously instructional services librarian at Hawaii Pacific University.

Stanton Biddle (Baruch) retired in January after twenty-six years with CUNY.  Stanton had been at Baruch since 1989, serving as administrative services librarian and as director of Baruch’s Middle States Accreditation Review.  He received the American Library Association’s award for Achievement in Library Diversity Research in 2010.

Marvie Brooks (John Jay) retired but continues as an adjunct reference librarian.

Martha Corpus (Brooklyn) retired.  Martha was subject specialist for education, psychology, and physical education.

Matthew Flaherty (Hostos) has been appointed assistant archivist and reference librarian.  He was previously a substitute librarian at Hostos.

Madeline Ford has been named interim chief librarian at Hostos.

Stephen Francoeur (Baruch) has been promoted to associate professor.

Harold Gee (Baruch) has been promoted to associate professor.

Eric Neubacher (Baruch), head of access services, retired after thirty-one years of service.

Ken Peeples (LaGuardia) retired as reference services coordinator in December.  Ken joined the library in 1976.

Ester Ramos (Baruch), head of circulation, retired after thirty-eight years of service.

Kevin Reiss (Office of Library Services) accepted a position as library web developer at Princeton University in May.  Kevin joined OLS in November 2008 and was responsible for such OLS initiatives as the IDS Search Project at CUNY, as a mentor for the implementation of ILLiad in CUNY campus libraries, and as the primary architect of the new OLS support site.  He was previously systems librarian at the Graduate Center.

Olga Snaider (Office of Library Services), returned with her family to Israel in June after four years with OLS.  Olga led the onsite Aleph technical-support team during such initiatives as the upgrade to Version 18, the development of a new workflow for Serials Solutions e-journal loads, planning and testing of the CUNYfirst/HCM and student interfaces, and the removal of social security numbers from use as the primary key for Aleph patron records.

Shay Taylor (City) received an MFA in creative writing from City College in February.

Sandra Gall Urban (York) was appointed assistant professor in February after completing an M.A. in liberal studies at Queens.  Her thesis is entitled “Peter Abelard and Heloise: An Examination of Their Continued Popularity.”  Sandra had been an instructor since 2008.

Irwin Weintraub (Brooklyn) retired.  Irwin was a longtime science specialist.
