Library Technology and the Future of Libraries

Physical space and hyperspace were the focus of the 2012 LACUNY Institute. Two speakers and a panel discussion addressed these issues during “Library Technology and the Future of Libraries” at the Graduate Center on June 1. 2012 Information Ethics Roundtable: Privacy and the Challenge of Technology

The tenth annual Information Ethics Roundtable was held at Hunter on April 27 -28. The Roundtable’s sponsors were the CUNY Office of Library Services, the Hunter College Library, the Hunter College Provost’s Office, and LACUNY. The Roundtable brings together librarians, information scientists, philosophers, and social scientists to examine the ethical questions that arise in the context of privacy, secrecy, censorship, and intellectual property. 21st Century Scholarship@Hunter

This year Hunter began its 21st Century Scholarship @ Hunter College Libraries series, presentations and workshops focusing on the changing nature of scholarship in the 21st century.  The series is designed to bring together researchers, librarians, and administrators to create a community of research practitioners for the discovery, exploration, and utilization of the newest topics, tools, and techniques of contemporary scholarship. Pulp Librarian

I am a librarian and am also a writer of short stories. I am attempting to write my first crime novel. Some of my favorite literary role-models have always been librarians, including one undeniable master of short fiction, Jorge Luis Borges, who was at one time chief librarian of the National Library of Argentina. Borges has written brilliant allegorical tales using the setting and spirit of the library to create meaning. (more…)

New Hunter Social Work and Public Health Library

The Hunter College Schools of Social Work and Public Health Library is a graduate and doctoral-level branch of the Hunter College Libraries.  The library’s mission is to support the curriculum needs of the Schools of Social Work and Public Health and to maintain a collection that reflects the wide interests and ongoing research in these fields.
